Heron Hill has been farming above <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/place/?q=place_id:ChIJ6YT9okj90IkRkH1JaQGwtzw" style="color:#1A7340">Branchport</a> since 1977, making it one of the longer-established producers on Keuka Lake. The tasting room terrace, which <a href="https://www.travelandleisure.com" style="color:#6C3483">Travel+Leisure</a> placed among the finest winery views in the world, faces east across the full width of the west arm toward both branches of the Y. Seven <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riesling" style="color:#0563C1">Riesling</a> styles in the portfolio span from off-dry to reserve, giving visitors a structured way into the range of Keuka expressions from a single hillside. The Blue Heron Cafe serves lunch seasonally on the same terrace. <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Wine_and_Grape_Foundation" style="color:#0563C1">New York Wine and Grape Foundation</a> Sustainability Award recipient. Heron Hill Winery

Seven Riesling styles from a west-arm terrace that Travel+Leisure placed among the finest winery views in the world.

<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Konstantin_Frank" style="color:#0563C1">Frank</a> held a doctorate in viticulture from the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odessa_Polytechnic_Institute" style="color:#0563C1">Odessa Polytechnic Institute</a> and knew the 300-year failure to grow <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitis_vinifera" style="color:#0563C1">vinifera</a> in the northeast was a rootstock problem, not a cold-climate one. He found a sympathetic partner in <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Fournier_(winemaker)" style="color:#0563C1">Charles Fournier</a> at <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold_Seal_Winery" style="color:#6C3483">Gold Seal Winery</a>, with whom he communicated in French. In 1958 he purchased 188 acres on <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/place/?q=place_id:ChIJvcl-vXir0YkR4q6pKYRmJj4" style="color:#1A7340">Keuka’s west shore</a> for $6,000 — chosen for its shale-based soil and southwest-facing slope — and planted with evening and weekend help from volunteers. The vines he planted that year are among the oldest in the United States. All Chateau Frank sparkling wine, made by the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traditional_method" style="color:#0563C1">traditional method</a> with bottle fermentation, comes from the Keuka estate. Meaghan Frank, Konstantin’s great-granddaughter, is now the lead winemaker. The 1886 Reserve terrace tasting overlooks the original vineyard and requires a reservation. Open daily. Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery

Where Konstantin Frank planted the first vinifera vines in the eastern United States in 1958, for $6,000.

The <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taylor_Wine_Company" style="color:#0563C1">Taylor Wine Company</a> was founded in Hammondsport in the late 1800s and grew into one of the largest wine producers in the eastern United States before <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Coca-Cola_Company" style="color:#0563C1">Coca-Cola</a> acquired it in 1977. Walter S. Taylor, grandson of the founder, was expelled from the family company before the sale for advocating honest labeling of hybrid wines. He started Bully Hill on the original Taylor family land, and when Coca-Cola sued him for using the Taylor name, he blacked out the name on every bottle in his inventory and wrote “they got my name and my heritage but they didn’t get my goat” — illustrated with a goat. The <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_S._Taylor" style="color:#0563C1">goat label</a> has been the winery’s symbol ever since. The tasting room and art gallery occupy the original Taylor farmstead above <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/place/?q=place_id:ChIJvcl-vXir0YkR4q6pKYRmJj4" style="color:#1A7340">Keuka</a>. The Ben Taylor restaurant serves lunch seasonally.

Keuka Spring Vineyards sits on the east arm near Penn Yan, one of the anchor stops at the top of the east arm circuit. The winery has won three <a href="https://www.agriculture.ny.gov/" style="color:#6C3483">Governor’s Cups</a> and two Best White Wine in America awards. The current tasting pavilion and barrel cellar opened at 243 East Lake Road in a re-imagined facility with an open-air food truck, a barrel barn, and a short film on the history of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finger_Lakes_wine" style="color:#0563C1">Finger Lakes winemaking</a>. <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riesling" style="color:#0563C1">Riesling</a> and <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cabernet_franc" style="color:#0563C1">Cabernet Franc</a> are the lead varieties. Keuka Spring Vineyards

Three Governor's Cups and two Best White Wine in America awards from a tasting room overlooking the east arm.

Hans Peter Weis was born in <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zell,_Mosel" style="color:#0563C1">Zell, Mosel</a>, trained at his family’s winery, and arrived in the Finger Lakes with 11 vintages of German winemaking behind him. He purchased the former one-room schoolhouse on Day Road in 2006 and converted it into the tasting room. Weis Vineyards has won the title of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Wine_and_Grape_Foundation" style="color:#0563C1">New York State Winery of the Year</a> three consecutive years — the only producer in the state to accomplish this. The portfolio centers on <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riesling" style="color:#0563C1">Riesling</a> in multiple styles, alongside <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinot_noir" style="color:#0563C1">Pinot Noir</a>, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grüner_Veltliner" style="color:#0563C1">Grüner Veltliner</a>, and <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_wine" style="color:#0563C1">ice wine</a>. The Saunders Finger Lakes Museum sits in <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/place/?q=place_id:ChIJa9df6Sv90IkRZgGytnhgRwA" style="color:#1A7340">Branchport</a> at the tip of the northwest arm, focused specifically on the natural and <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haudenosaunee" style="color:#0563C1">Indigenous</a> history of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finger_Lakes" style="color:#0563C1">Finger Lakes</a> — geology, ecology, and <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seneca_people" style="color:#0563C1">Seneca Nation</a> presence predating European contact. The museum campus includes a kayak launch on Sugar Creek, a children’s story garden, and educational displays on lakeshore ecology. A new permanent building is under construction. Saunders Finger Lakes Museum

The museum in Branchport dedicated to the geology, ecology, and Indigenous history of the Finger Lakes.

Vineyard View Winery is a fifth-generation farm estate on the east arm of <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/place/?q=place_id:ChIJvcl-vXir0YkR4q6pKYRmJj4" style="color:#1A7340">Keuka Lake</a>, with the Folts family farming the hillside since the 1850s. The original barn from that era serves as the tasting room. The portfolio emphasizes dry <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riesling" style="color:#0563C1">Riesling</a>, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chardonnay" style="color:#0563C1">Chardonnay</a>, and <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinot_noir" style="color:#0563C1">Pinot Noir</a> alongside the estate rosé. Vineyard View Winery

A fifth-generation farm estate where the original 1850s barn is now the tasting room.

<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morten_Hallgren" style="color:#0563C1">Morten</a> and Lisa Hallgren founded Ravines in 2000 after Morten trained at <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/École_Nationale_Supérieure_Agronomique_de_Montpellier" style="color:#0563C1">Europe’s top winemaking school</a> and worked alongside his father at <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domaine_Cazes" style="color:#0563C1">Domaine Cazes</a> in <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roussillon_wines" style="color:#0563C1">Roussillon</a>. The Keuka estate at Route 54 produces the bone-dry <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riesling" style="color:#0563C1">Riesling</a> that earned a spot on the <a href="https://www.winespectator.com" style="color:#6C3483">Wine Spectator</a> Top 100 and put <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finger_Lakes_wine" style="color:#0563C1">Finger Lakes terroir</a> in front of a national audience. The tasting room at <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/place/?q=place_id:ChIJWSEeaQ6s0YkRVvF1RNJ-zPQ" style="color:#1A7340">14630 Route 54</a> reopened as Agricolae Estate Winery under the same ownership; both labels pour from this location. Ravines Wine Cellars & Agricolae Estate Winery

A French-trained winemaker's bone-dry Riesling that put Finger Lakes terroir on the Wine Spectator Top 100.

The Park Inn operates from the oldest building in Hammondsport, on the village square two blocks from <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/place/?q=place_id:ChIJ2SG4Fhir0YkRtAZ1rTcCmKI" style="color:#1A7340">Depot Park</a>. The farm-to-table dinner menu draws from the inn’s 8-acre organic farm and a wine list of 300+ <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finger_Lakes_wine" style="color:#0563C1">Finger Lakes</a> bottles. Five inn suites above the restaurant provide the most central overnight option in the village. The building dates to 1860. The Park Inn is affiliated with <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/place/?q=place_id:ChIJkYlPzi7-0IkRU7lWRqs77dc" style="color:#1A7340">Point of the Bluff Vineyards</a> under the same family ownership. Keuka Watersports operates from&nbsp;Champlin Beach, two blocks from Hammondsport’s village square. The rental fleet includes single and tandem kayaks, paddleboards, jet skis, and pontoon boats. Staff provide on-water orientation before departure. Jet ski and pontoon rentals require advance booking in peak season. Open June 15 - Labor Day

Keuka Watersports

Founded in 1961 by Otto Kohl, who worked at the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curtiss_Aeroplane_and_Motor_Company" style="color:#0563C1">Curtiss Aeroplane and Motor Company</a> from 1915. The 60,000-square-foot facility holds a reproduction of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curtiss_June_Bug" style="color:#0563C1">June Bug</a> that <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glenn_Curtiss" style="color:#0563C1">Curtiss</a> flew nearly a mile above Hammondsport on July 4, 1908, taking the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_American" style="color:#0563C1">Scientific American</a> prize for the first public flight in North America. Also on display: the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curtiss_Model_E" style="color:#0563C1">Curtiss Model E</a>, the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curtiss_America" style="color:#0563C1">America</a> flying boat designed for the first transatlantic attempt, a <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curtiss_JN-4" style="color:#0563C1">JN-4D Jenny</a>, and early hydro-aeroplanes of the type Curtiss tested on <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/place/?q=place_id:ChIJvcl-vXir0YkR4q6pKYRmJj4" style="color:#1A7340">Keuka’s surface</a>. The motorcycle collection spans his full career, including an exact reproduction of the V8 that reached 136.4 mph in January 1907. The restoration shop is a working facility open to visitors. A dedicated exhibit covers the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curtiss_Cadettes" style="color:#0563C1">Curtiss Cadettes</a>, the 766 women who completed a wartime aerodynamics program at <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornell_University" style="color:#0563C1">Cornell</a>, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIT" style="color:#0563C1">MIT</a>, and five other universities between 1943 and 1945. <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Path_Through_History" style="color:#0563C1">Path Through History</a> site. The man who received the first pilot's license in the United States tested his aircraft on this water.

Keuka Lake Vineyards occupies a hillside on the west arm of the lake at County Route 76, producing estate wines with the same fruit the family has grown here for decades. Owner Melvin Goldman is a former wine importer whose tasting notes draw on years of comparative work with European producers. The estate <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riesling" style="color:#0563C1">Riesling</a> — particularly the dry expression — has appeared on the list at <a href="https://www.elevenmadisonpark.com" style="color:#6C3483">Eleven Madison Park</a>. Outdoor seating on the hillside overlooks the west arm. Small production; open daily in season.

Keuka Lake Vineyards

Estate wines on the west shore overlooking the lake from a hillside the family has farmed for decades.

<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Davenport_Champlin" style="color:#0563C1">Charles Davenport Champlin</a> and twelve Hammondsport businessmen incorporated <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pleasant_Valley_Wine_Company" style="color:#0563C1">Pleasant Valley</a> in 1860 with $10,000 and two French-trained winemakers, Jules and Joseph Masson. The winery was designated <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonded_winery" style="color:#0563C1">U.S. Bonded Winery No. 1</a> — the first licensed winery in the country. Eight stone buildings on the property are listed on the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Register_of_Historic_Places" style="color:#0563C1">National Register of Historic Places</a>. The winery survived <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prohibition_in_the_United_States" style="color:#0563C1">Prohibition</a> and several ownership changes before returning to local family control in 1995. <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Western_Champagne" style="color:#0563C1">Great Western Champagne</a>, made here continuously since the 1860s, was the first American champagne to win a major European competition. Tours are conducted seasonally. The Visitor Center wine museum includes a working model of the Hammondsport Railroad. <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Path_Through_History" style="color:#0563C1">Path Through History</a> site.

The first bonded winery in the United States, where the cellars were built to look like the Champagne caves of Reims.

Keuka Lake State Park occupies 621 acres on the eastern side of the Branchport approach to the northwest arm, providing the fullest public water access on a lake whose shores are otherwise largely private. The park offers a sandy beach, picnic areas, a campground with 150 sites, a boat launch, and direct lake access for swimming. The location near <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/place/?q=place_id:ChIJ6YT9okj90IkRkH1JaQGwtzw" style="color:#1A7340">Branchport</a> puts it within ten minutes of <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/place/?q=place_id:ChIJ6YT9okj90IkRkH1JaQGwtzw" style="color:#1A7340">Hunt Country Vineyards</a> and <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/place/?q=place_id:ChIJ9bJ6lBX90IkRWqeL-_fAqdw" style="color:#1A7340">Stever Hill Vineyards</a>. The Arts Center of Yates County at 127 Main Street is <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/place/?q=place_id:ChIJV86NdtLl0IkRklK71DdM9Wg" style="color:#1A7340">Penn Yan</a>’s primary arts and cultural institution. The center runs rotating gallery exhibitions, studio classes in painting, drawing, ceramics, and fiber arts, and an annual Plein Air workshop series that takes artists to <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finger_Lakes" style="color:#0563C1">Finger Lakes</a> vineyards and lakeshores. Classes run for adults and children year-round. Located two doors from <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/place/?q=place_id:ChIJf5r4g83l0IkRajbRQmgpKxY" style="color:#1A7340">Keuka Candy Emporium</a> on the Main Street corridor. Free admission to galleries; class fees apply.

Arts Center of Yates County

Penn Yan's community arts center with rotating exhibits, workshops, and gallery space on Main Street.

Apple Barrel Orchards is an 86-acre fourth-generation family farm with more than 80 years of continuous fruit harvest behind it. The original 1896 barn still stands and now houses the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cider" style="color:#0563C1">cidery</a> tasting room. The orchard grows more than 40 varieties of apple alongside <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concord_grape" style="color:#0563C1">Concord</a> and <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niagara_grape" style="color:#0563C1">Niagara</a> grapes. Hard ciders are produced on-site from estate fruit and offered in flights, by the glass, and in growler fills. Wholesale kegs available. Open seasonally; check website for dates.
