Bob McGregor was a Kodak physicist and home winemaker who purchased 70 acres on the east arm in 1971 and opened the winery in 1980. He was the first producer in the United States to label a wine as Saperavi, a red variety from the Republic of Georgia that he planted on the hillside above Keuka that same year. The Saperavi remains the winery’s signature, paired with Riesling, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Franc. The original McGregor family still operates the estate.
