By 1820, the Keuka Outlet corridor supported 14 sawmills, seven grist mills, distilleries, and carding machines powered by the drop from Keuka Lake to Seneca Lake — one of the highest waterpower drops in western New York. The Crooked Lake Canal ran this corridor from 1833, replaced by the Bath and Hammondsport Railroad in 1872, which itself closed in 1972. The 6.6-mile trail now follows the former rail bed from Penn Yan east to Dresden on Seneca Lake, passing Cascade Falls and Outlet Falls en route. Flat grade throughout; suitable for walking and cycling. Penn Yan trailhead at Elm Street; Dresden trailhead at Seneca Lake.
