Point of the Bluff Vineyards opened its tasting room in 2015 on the west side of Keuka Lake in Hammondsport, but winemaker Mike Countryman had been growing grapes and making wine in the Finger Lakes long before that. The operation is described by its own founders as an accidental winery, one that began when the property owner hired Countryman to improve a steep vineyard slope and ended with a full production facility. The boutique size keeps Countryman involved in every stage from planting to bottling, and the portfolio runs from old-world style vinifera including Cabernet Franc, Blaufrankisch, Riesling, and Chardonnay to canned wines. Tastings happen in a restored 1800s schoolhouse with an indoor bar and outdoor bocce courts overlooking the lake. The concert series, which launched in 2019 in a weatherproof reclaimed-lumber pavilion, has hosted national acts. Overnight accommodations are available through the Park Inn, a five-suite restored inn on the property, and Glenn Scott Manor, a historic farmhouse above the lake that sleeps nine. Reservations are recommended on weekends.
