Stony Brook State Park sits south of Dansville and gets compared most often to Watkins Glen and Robert Treman, a shale gorge with a trail that climbs past three waterfalls and features two swimming areas under the cascades. The Gorge Trail runs roughly three-quarters of a mile with wet sections and natural stone stairs. The East and West Rim trails return to the parking area along the cliff edges, with roots, unkempt stairs, and no railings in places. The campground is a popular summer base for Letchworth day trips when the closer-in sites are booked. A $7 per-vehicle entry fee applies during the operating season. Don't miss: the swimming pool below the second falls on a hot July day. Get there early on weekends, the parking lot fills by 11.
