The US Army Corps of Engineers constructed the Mount Morris Dam in the late 1940s to mitigate flooding along the lower Genesee River. Today, it offers flood protection along 67 miles of the Genesee River Valley. Visitors can take a guided walking tour to understand the workings and significance of this engineering marvel. Reservations are strongly recommended and can be made up to 7 days in advance. The dam is still active and provides flood protection from Mount Morris to downtown Rochester. The walking tour is suitable for active visitors interested in engineering. Accessibility information is provided for visitors with mobility limitations. The tour requires participants to check-in at least 15 minutes before the start time at the Visitor Center. A liability waiver is mandatory for all participants. Valid photo ID is required for adults. Service animals are allowed, but only for individuals with disabilities. Tickets for tours can be booked up to 7 days in advance. There is no charge for entry, but a non-refundable reservation service fee may apply. Safety regulations include cancellation of tours during severe weather or operational reasons.
