At the northern end of Cayuga Lake, where the lake drains through the Seneca River and the Erie Canal corridor, the landscape that made the Underground Railroad function is still legible. The canal and river systems provided the northward routes that conductors used to move people from central New York toward Oswego and the lake crossing to Canada. Montezuma Heritage Park sits on the Seneca River at the point where those routes converged, adjacent to the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge. Open year-round.
