Hoopes Park

Twenty-five-acre Auburn city park with pond, gazebo, and 1931 planting beds

Cayuga County

Hoopes Park was created in 1922 when the Hoopes family donated the land to the City of Auburn. The clubhouse was built in 1929. A central pond with a fountain anchors the park, surrounded by gardens, a gazebo, statues, and brick walkways. The Auburn Beautification Commission has been working to replicate the original 1931 planting-bed plans. Since the early 1900s Hoopes Park has hosted summer concert series, art shows, weddings, and community events. Walking around the pond, feeding ducks, and sitting with a book are the daily uses. The park has no playground. Route 20 location keeps it on the approach into Auburn from the east.
