Hemlock Lake Park

The public access point on Hemlock Lake, where motorboats are restricted to 10 horsepower to protect Rochester's water supply.

Livingston County

Hemlock Lake Park at the north end of Hemlock Lake is the main public access point for a lake system that Rochester's water board has kept largely undeveloped since the city began protecting it as a drinking water source in the 1870s. Motorboats are restricted to 17 feet and 10 horsepower on both Hemlock and Canadice; swimming is prohibited in the lakes themselves. Rob's Trail, completed in 2016 and named for conservationist Rob van der Stricht, connects the east shore of Hemlock to the west shore of Canadice through gorges and forest with a waterfall en route, a four-mile cross-lake walk that almost no one outside the region knows about. Canadice Lake has no facilities at all; come with everything you need.
