Hazlitt 1852 Vineyards has been working the same land on Seneca Lake for more than 170 years, and the operation still runs on the philosophy their late founder Jerry Hazlitt put into words: come as a guest, leave as a friend. Tastings happen around a horseshoe bar, guided by staff who keep things informal, and every tasting comes with a bowl of freshly popped popcorn. Six wines, ciders, or wine seltzers for $10. Red Cat, their best-known wine, has built a following that extends well beyond the Finger Lakes. The Oasis, a post-and-beam open-air pavilion and outdoor bar with fire pits and Adirondack chairs, opens seasonally from April through December, with live music on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons during peak season. Monday brings Mimosa Monday, Tuesday is two-for-one tastings, and Friday afternoons run a dedicated happy hour from 3 to 5 PM.
Don't miss: a seat at the horseshoe bar on a slow weekday, when the wine guides have time to actually tell you the stories.
