Harriet Hollister Spencer State Recreation Area sits on the ridge above Honeoye Lake on Canadice Hill Road, which puts it at one of the highest accessible viewpoints in the western Finger Lakes. The main draw is the overlook: on a clear day, the view reaches across Honeoye to the Rochester skyline 30 miles north. The park covers 672 acres and is less developed than typical state parks. Trails run for hiking, mountain biking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing, with a technical mountain bike network that draws riders from across the region. Picnic areas and grills are available at the overlook. The park was donated by the Spencer family in 1965. Don't miss: the overlook at sunrise or during fall foliage. Bring a map, the trail system is easy to get turned around on.
