Genesee Country Village & Museum moved 68 19th-century buildings from across New York State to its 600-acre campus in Mumford, reconstructing a pre-1870 village with working trades, blacksmith, cooper, printer, cabinetmaker, baker, interpreted by costumed staff. The collection of more than 20,000 artifacts covers daily life, commerce, and culture of Western New York in the decades leading to the Civil War. The museum runs a heavy calendar of special events: Fiber Festival, Highland Gathering, Civil War reenactments, Owl Moon night tours in fall, and a holiday season that transforms the village. Winter hours are limited; the main season runs May through October. Don't miss: the cooper's shop when it's running, and any of the evening programs that open buildings after hours with lantern light.
