Fox Run Vineyards has been farming the west side of Seneca Lake since 1989, and owners Scott and Ruth Osborn have built the kind of operation that doesn't ask you to know anything before you walk in. Tastings are first-come, first-served for groups of 12 or fewer, with flights of five wines at $10 and four track options: sweet, dry, red, or Riesling. Hourly vineyard and winemaking tours run every day of the year, weather permitting, starting at 10 AM. The on-site café turns out a fully house-made, locally sourced lunch menu daily from 11 AM to 5 PM. The whole property runs on self-generated solar power. On Friday mornings from July through October, Scott and Ruth host a Food and Wine Experience in the restored 1800s dairy barn that now serves as their barrel room, pairing a light lunch with a guided conversation about why the two things belong together.
Don't miss: the VIP owner's tour with Scott Osborn, which ends with a custom cheese and charcuterie board built by Chef Brud Holland around wines from the full Fox Run portfolio.
