The Auburn Schine Theater opened in 1938 to a design by John Eberson, the architect responsible for many of the country's Art Moderne movie palaces. The 1,586-seat theater closed in 1982 and has since been under long-term restoration led by the Cayuga County Arts Council. Exterior elements including the marquee have been partially restored; the interior preservation work is ongoing. Not currently operating as a performance venue; check Arts Council updates for restoration progress and open-house events.
