The Honeoye Inlet Wildlife Management Area protects the wetland complex at the south end of Honeoye Lake, a stopover point for waterfowl on the Great Lakes migration flyway. The property is managed by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, with walking access along mowed paths and designated hunting areas in season. For visitors, the area is primarily a birding destination: herons, ducks, geese, and a range of raptors pass through in spring and fall. The trails are less manicured than a state park and the experience is less-visited than Sandy Bottom or Harriet Hollister Spencer, but for birders and wildlife photographers, it's the most productive corner of Honeoye. Don't miss: the fall migration window, roughly late September through October, when waterfowl numbers peak.
